What happens when details feel fuzzy—or you’re not entirely sure your memory is accurate? \nIn Memoir – Fact or Fiction\, you’ll explore the creative and ethical questions that arise when writing true stories from lived experience. Through discussion\, real-world examples of memoir dilemmas\, and guided in-class writing\, this workshop will help you bring clarity\, focus\, and confidence to your personal stories—without losing their emotional truth. \nWhether you’re beginning a memoir\, working on personal essays\, or simply curious about how memory works on the page\, this session offers practical tools and a supportive space to write. \nIn this workshop\, you will:\n\nExplore the gray areas between fact\, memory\, and storytelling\nLearn how memoirists handle uncertainty and imperfect recall\nExamine common memoir dilemmas and creative approaches to them\nPractice shaping anecdotes through in-class writing exercises\nGain confidence in writing with honesty\, intention\, and clarity\n\nAll experience levels are welcome. Come with curiosity—and a willingness to explore your story. \nAbout the Facilitator\nEllie O’Leary is an accomplished writer\, teacher\, and poet with a long history of supporting writers at every stage of their journey. Her experience includes teaching at Belfast (Maine) Senior College\, hosting Writer’s Forum on WERU-FM\, teaching at the Pyramid Life Center in the Adirondacks\, and earning an MFA from Maine’s Stonecoast program. \nEllie is Poet Laureate Emerita of Amesbury\, Massachusetts\, and the former Education Director of the Gloucester Writers Center. She is the author of Breathe Here (poetry\, 2020) and Up Home Again (memoir\, 2023)\, both published by North Country Press.

SUMMARY:Tales of a Reluctant World Traveler: Comedy of adventure and self-discovery
DESCRIPTION:How a reluctant traveler turned a round-the-world trip into a comedy novel and solo show.\n\n\n\nSixteen weeks\, four continents\, three bungee jumps\, and I couldn’t come home soon enough. This is the story of how a Boston homebody turned a solo trip around the globe into a comedy novel and a one-man play. Part travelogue\, part theater\, and part off-kilter author talk… \nRandy Ross is a Boston-area writer and storyteller. His fiction\, humor\, and essays have appeared in The Drum\, Black Heart Magazine\, Side B Magazine\, and Calliope\, among others. He is the author of two novels: God Bless Cambodia (The Permanent Press/2017) and The Squid and the Spaceman (Epsilon Books/Oct. 2024). His one-man shows have been featured at more than 30 theater festivals around the U.S.\, Canada\, and the U.K. \nIn 2007\, Ross took a trip around the world and learned to say in three languages: “Speak English?” “Got Pepto-Bismol?” and “Send the evacuation helicopter.” Two of his shows and the novel God Bless Cambodia were inspired by the trip. \nPreviously\, Ross was an executive editor for PC World magazine. He is currently writing a third novel\, and touring his show\,Tales of a Reluctant World Traveler.
